"timing X" puts you in the seat of a mech in a footrace. sprint around a course, utilize the raising and lowering tides and get a good time

hell yeah!! super nice use of some of UZDoom's physics with great feeling platforming and tons of possible time optimizations :> the water mechanics do make for interesting improvising and probably open up more paths that i didn't see in my runs.
